Editing Images on Google Docs

Image
Hello Everyone,  Welcome back to my blog. I am going to discuss another free photo editing resource. Many people do not know that Google documents have a photo editing tab. After uploading the photo into google docs you can then edit and crop the photo. I decided to try this image editing tool and love that it allows you to draw on the photo itself. This is a fantastic tool for teachers or individuals who are providing instructions or examples. I have included a diagram of how to upload a photo to google docs and instructions on how you get started. I eagerly encourage you all to give this a shot.  Further instructions-  From your Google Doc, select the Insert menu and choose Drawing In the drawing click on the Insert Image icon and upload your image or choose one from other options Once the image uploads, click on it to select it and you can now crop and edit the image When you Save and Close to return to your doc, you have the cropped image If you later edit the d...

Editing photos with POWERPOINT

Image
Hello Everyone,  Welcome back to my blog! This week I want to discuss Microsoft Powerpoint and how it is more than just  a presentation tool. I am sure by the title of this blog you can assume I am talking about photo editing. Yes, that is correct! This tool is actually super fun to mess around with so I highly recommend giving it a shot. I recently applied for my dream job and this editing tool couldn't have come at a better time. I am applying for a 6 month traveling job that requires taking photo of National Parks. In the the job application I must submit a nature photo. I chose to edit a photo of the Sandia Mountains in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Here is the photo of the mountains prior to editing on powerpoint.  Here is the photo after editing. I chose to darken the city underneath the mountains to pull more of a focal point on the mountains themselves.  I realize I am not a professional editor, but this tool makes a mediocre editor like myself seem so...

Reaction to OLP ...so far anyways

I am by no means a technology woman. However, I do enjoy the resources that technology provides. I am a fan of Twitter so adding that into the class was fun. I pondered using my personal twitter for the class or making a new one specifically to use just for OLP. I realized this class was about networking as much as it is about learning technological tools. By expanding my network other opportunities could arise in the future. Life really is about who you know more than what you know, so adding everyone in the class to our social media platforms was a really good idea. Linked in is a resource that is meant for networking, but sometimes other platforms bring forward different conversations and opportunities. It is also interesting to learn about your classmates using twitter. This will sound so creepy, but you really can learn a lot about someone based on who they follow and what they post. I am also coming around to this whole blogging thing. Since starting this class I have also m...

Feedly

Hello Everyone,  This week I decided to discuss "Feedly". If you are similar to me you likely have no idea what Feedly is or even what it is. Feedly is an app/ software that helps you find the best source to aid in whatever topic you wish to learn about. Feedly is also a resource to share information such as blogs similar to blogger. Feedly helps filter your favorite sources and puts your preferred sources into a feed. I made a Feedly account and have started using it. I love watching Youtube videos as a learning resources. This app filters youtube videos that it recommends I follow on my feed. I also really enjoy social media platforms so I am stoked about this app. I can make my own feed filled with different apps and share what I think is valuable to others. I think this app will be a prominent resource to my PLN.

PLN and why its cool

After reviewing the readings on PLN I am intrigued  at the freedom a PLN can obtain. A personal learning network allows an individual to decipher what network works best for them. It also allows individuals to take there personal learning into their own hands. The thing I like the most about PLN is that social media such as Facebook and Twitter can be included as a PLN. The only thing that confuses me is how one would declare the knowledge they learn on a PLN to be truly factual or not. I feel like I personally use social media as a resource for basic information and keeping up with politics and other sporting events. However, I question where one draws the line on what information is acceptable to obtain from social media and what is not.

Introduction

Hello everyone,  My name is Tristen Spooner and I am currently in the MAT program here at ISU. I have made this blog in order to share and learn technological tools and strategies with other teachers that can help me in my career. I am currently in OLP5507 ,which is also why I have made this blog. I hope to not only gain knowledge through my peers but also network with other teachers and find out what tools have helped them in their classrooms. I have never blogged before so I am super excited for this opportunity.

Observation

After reading several blog posts I have realized that a good post draws the readers attention. They give the important information early on to keep the reader interested in what they are searching to learn. I can create an engaging post by adding personal experience into the information. I think in most cases people want answers from people who are dealing with similar issues and seeking real life solutions that work. For me personally, I enjoy relating to people on personal levels and I think a blog can be a a resource in meeting many people who can relate to you. Making the blog personal will pull readers in and also keep the blog unique.
